Classroom Management:
In order to create an environment that is conducive to learning for all students I place a large emphasis on classroom management. Our classroom will be the best possible learning environment if we all understand and follow the management plan consistently . The following classroom rules will be in place. I work hard to hold ALL students accountable for these rules at ALL times.
Classroom Rules
1. Listen and follow directions
2. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat
3. Respect your classmates, teacher, and classroom
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
Consequences
1. Warning (Name goes on the board)
2. Time out + Student-created consequence
(In time out, students are responsible for the same work. The student will think of a solution that works for both the teacher and the student)
3. Letter Home + Student-created consequence
(Students will bring home a letter about his or her behavior. The student will stay in from recess until the letter is signed and returned by an adult. The student will think of a solution that works for both the teacher and the student)
Positive Behavior
At Brown we all foster the development of positive behavior in our students.
We will use a variety of positive behavior rewards within our classroom throughout the year, starting with table points and class points.

Attendance:
The IB Primary Years Programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The social, interpersonal and affective benefits of being in the classroom can not be made up. I will give make-up work in a "while you were away folder" which the student will need to return the following day.
I understand that students get sick and emergencies happen. Please try to limit absences and tardies as much as possible.
Thank you for your support.
Bullying:
Bullying will not be tolerated within my classroom. I will do everything that I can to ensure that our classroom is a safe place for all students to learn. I believe that if we act as a team we can prevent this issue. Please familiarize yourself with our classroom bullying policy. Also, please contact me directly and immediately with any bullying concerns.
Definitions of bullying:
Persistent, offensive, abusive, intimidating or insulting behavior, abuse of power, or unfair punishment which upsets, threatens and/or humiliates the recipient(s), undermining their self-confidence, reputation and ability to perform. Derived from "Bullying: how to tackle it."
Classroom bullying policy:
Bullying is simply not allowed in room 218.
If a student is getting bullied, he or she needs to tell me immediately.
Bullies will be put in an extended classroom timeout and a recess timeout. (Students are responsible for academic work, but are separated from our classroom community)
Bullies who repeat the behavior more than once will be reported to the office.
Bullies' parents will be called or sent an email.
Bullies will prepare a public apology to the class.
Bullying will need to be stopped before the student is allowed back into the classroom community.
Restroom Policy:
We ticket policy for restrooms and drinks. Students receive 6 tickets at the beginning of the week (1 ticket per day and a bonus). They use these tickets each time they need to leave the room to use the restroom or get a drink of water.
At the end of the week, tickets that are left over will be put into a box for a drawing. Prizes will vary throughout the year.
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to limit trips to the drinking fountain. They are also encouraged to use the restroom before school and during non-academic times throughout the day.
Please contact me with any medical conditions that might prevent your student from using this policy.
Also, I want you to know that if it is an emergency or if there is any extenuating circumstances your child simply needs to ask me. This policy is meant to limit distraction but I will never prevent a student from using the restroom if they need to.
